Health and Happiness at Work: Find Your Balance with Adjustable Workstations
As humans in the workforce we expect to carry a reasonable amount of stress in alignment with the responsibilities of our roles. It’s fair to say that many managers and workers have challenges when it comes to managing their stress levels.
In the hybrid work era, businesses are also helping personnel achieve better balance. Corporate culture has evolved to better recognize and address the burden of stress. Workday hours have grown flexible, and many businesses have seen the value – even a ROI of reduced overhead in some cases – of remote workdays. Inside their offices, adjustments are also being made – right down to the desks where people conduct business.
The corporate workday has evolved inside the workplace to address the necessities of life/work balance, and provide comforts and amenities that inject healthier lifestyle choices into the mix. That includes communal areas, exercise rooms, green outdoor spaces, and adjustable workstations – the latter of which Humly addresses for businesses worldwide through its Workplace Experience innovations.
User-friendly desk adjustments
A recent study from Motivaction found that while businesses have made investments in “sit/stand” desk infrastructure, nearly three-quarters of them (71 percent) are left unused. However, nearly half these respondents say they welcome the opportunity to be on their feet more often through the day. So where is the disconnect?
At Humly, we believe that disconnect lies in user-friendliness. There is a clear difference between desk height requirements for seated and standing positions. We are working to simplify those adjustments through our Humly Booking Device, which integrates control functionality for adjustable desks with adjustments to each worker’s preferred height. The PoE and Desk Control adapter attaches to the side or base of the desk and then to the Booking Device, and immediately adjusts to the desired seating or standing position with the desk control arrows on the Booking Device. It doesn’t get easier than this.
Standing more often at work simply makes people feel better - and healthier. The blood flows through the body as we move, and the brain benefits from the body no longer being in a state of inertia. The brain is activated and productivity improves because when we stand, we find and achieve our balance. And we can all use just a little more balance in our workdays.
